Happy Family Day long weekend, Mahogany families!
We hope you are having an awesome long weekend. Reminder – due to the holiday tomorrow, there is no school for students on Monday. We look forward to seeing students on Tuesday, February 17th. For any of our students & families honoring Chinese New Year, Tết or Seollal this week, we hope your festivities and celebrations are joyful.
Lottery Update – Kindergarten 2026-27
We will begin the process of informing families of the lottery results this week. So far, there have been over 240 kindergarten registrations for the 2026-27 school year. Thanks for your patience. If your child is offered placement, please do accept as soon as possible (max 10 days from the email notification). Please see here for more information about the lottery process from the CBE. Parents will know if their child will be attending am or pm classes later this Spring once all registrations are confirmed. We will be hosting a “Welcome to Kindergarten” orientation for registered families in May. It’s an exciting time and we look forward to seeing our new & existing Mahogany families to welcome them into our school community.
Upcoming Readathon
Our 2nd Annual Readathon is right around the corner! From February 23rd - March 5th, Mahogany School will be hosting a Readathon to motivate students to read daily and meet their reading goals! Please start the conversation with your child(ren)/students and let them know we will have prizes, special guests, and the readers with the most reading minutes could win Principal or Assistant Principal for the day at our school! Last year we raised $29,000! This year we are hoping to keep the momentum going and raise $30,000! All this money goes directly to supporting our library, field trips, technology, playground equipment, etc.
Please note, we encourage your child(ren) to wear their Flames gear or red on Tuesday Feb. 24 as we have special guest, Flames player #70 Ryan Lomberg, joining our assembly to read stories to our students and share the importance of reading! Please note this is a student only assembly due to our gym capacity. Stay tuned for more details to come. Thank you to our amazing School Council & MSFA members for helping us organize this event!
*FYI - Your child will be bringing home the paper reading tracking sheet this week. Please read it carefully and reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions! Thanks!
Winter Weather Returning?
Looks like winter may be returning to Calgary this week. Parents – thanks for sending along snow pants and all the gear that students require to play and learn outside. If the gear is labelled with your child's name, it sure makes it easier to return it to students, if it is misplaced.
Jump Rope for Heart Update
Thank you to all parents who have donated to this year’s Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser organized by Ms. Theberge & our leadership students. You can see some of this learning in action here! Donations will continue to be accepted until the end of February.
Gr. 1 - Offsite Learning this Week
Thank you to the parents in Mrs. Reis, Mrs. Lewendon, Mrs. Cautley and Miss Whelan’s classes for volunteering with the Grade 1s at the Calgary Zoo this week. We appreciate you and your support.
Welcoming the Calgary Opera this week
Thank you to Mrs. Bourgeois for organizing a special performance for our Grades 3, 4 and 5 students this week. Students will be viewing the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood (with a few twists). There may also be a Q&A with the singers after the performance.
