Mahogany Messenger – March 16th
Dear Mahogany Families,
In Gratitude
Thanks again to all who participated in this year’s Readathon Fundraiser organized by our School Council and Mahogany School Fundraising Association. Last Friday, we had the honor of hosting our Assistant Principal and Principal for the Day and many teachers hosted their teachers for the day! A number of students received prizes for their participation throughout the Readathon, and we couldn’t be more proud of their improvement & engagement in reading. Here’s a break down of the numbers shared with us by Council and MSFA:
- $29,599.06 was raised (an increase from last year!)
- 455 students participated
- 219, 520 minutes (over 3,658 hours!) of reading were logged
The money raised will be put to good use for student experiences and enhancements to learning over the coming months and into next year.
Parent Teacher Conferences: Thursday 3:30 – 8:00 pm & Friday 8:00 – 1:00 pm
Parents, teachers are looking forward to the opportunity to connect with you to talk about your child’s current learning and belonging within their classroom community as well as next steps in learning progressions. If you haven’t yet booked your Parent Teacher Conference, please do so by logging into your MyCBE PowerSchool account.
Lost & Found Items
Please note that all unclaimed student belongings from the lost and found will be displayed in the foyer of our school during Parent Teacher Conferences. Please swing by to take a look and claim anything that belongs to your family. It will be bagged up after the break and donated.
Honoring Mahogany School’s Student Talent
We are very much looking forward to the Talent Show on Tuesday afternoon that will showcase the talents of our Grades 1, 3, and 5 students. Thank you to Mrs. Bourgeois for organizing this event. The Grades 2 & 4 Talent Show will take place this spring. Thank you, parents, for supporting your child to ‘try out’ and audition, perform at the talent show or be a supportive and respectful audience member to their peers. Please note, the talent show is for students and staff only, due to lack of space for audience members.
A New Crosswalk for Mahogany School
The Ward 12 City Councilor’s office has confirmed a new enhanced pedestrian crossing, with a set of Rectangular Rapidly Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at Mahogany BV SE and Mahogany WY SE. This improvement is intended to encourage use of the controlled crossing and reduce the unsafe mid‑block crossings/jaywalking. The crosswalk is planned for 2026 and we will continue to share updates, as information is communicated to us. Thank you to the parents who continue to choose safety over convenience and demonstrate respect & courtesy to Mahogany residents and community members. Calgary Parking Authority plans to have a presence near our school in the coming weeks.
In Closing
Christine and I would like to wish you a happy St. Patrick’s Day this week and for those of you who will be celebrating Eid, we hope your upcoming celebrations are wonderful. Eid Mubarak! Lastly, we hope your families enjoy the week off for Spring Break. We look forward to welcoming students back on March 30th.
Sincerely,
Jill Scarrow & Christine Hewitt
