Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.​ ​​​​

Traffic Safety Reminders from The City of Calgary​

The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.

Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible. 

Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Ongoing Collaboration with CBE Transportation & The City of Calgary

Conversations and collaboration with CBE Transportation and The City of Calgary are ongoing and extensive. Requests for permanent signage, the addition of another crosswalk and other suggestions brought forward by our School Council to enhance safety have been submitted for consideration. The work and efforts of various stakeholders is significant and we would like to acknowledge all who have supported the education of our school community around increasing safer behavior.

The Mahogany School Park and Walk map that was created in conjunction with EverActive Schools to encourage families to walk in to the school, by parking a few blocks away and walking in outlines how we can reduce a great deal of traffic congestion immediately surrounding the school and help create a safer, and less challenging commute. When crossing Mahogany Blvd. Please consider waiting at the crosswalk until there are a few families to cross together, this may help the traffic flow.

Hug n Go

Parents are to pull in, up to the curb, allow children to hop in from the sidewalk, then pull out and exit from the lane next to the parking lot. There is no stopping at any time in the flow-through lane next to the parking lot. Additionally, students should not be entering cars in the flow-through lane as this is extremely dangerous.

No Parking In front of Driveways

When out in the community, please be mindful of houses and driveways. There is no parking in front of driveways – especially on Mahogany Way.

Staff Parking Lot and Mahogany Blvd.

Please note that the staff parking lot is not available for visitor/volunteer/parent parking. For safety reasons, DO NOT use the staff parking lot to drop-off or pick-up children. The parking lot is only accessible to CBE employees as staff members pay for the privilege of accessing assigned parking, and they arrive at various times throughout the day. 

The area in front of the school on Mahogany Blvd. is NOT for parent drop off and pick up. This is a designated bus lane which is used by Mahogany School busses as well as other school and public busses throughout the day. Please DO NOT stop or park there. Crossing Mahogany Blvd. is only permitted at the round-a-bout and at the corner of Mahogany Way. Safety first.

Drop-off and Pick-up

All doors are available for students to access this year – students can enter at beginning at 7:45 am daily and can enter through all doors including the parking lot doors for Hug n’ Go flow.

If you would like to access the school, or your children are late, please go to the main entrance on Mahogany Blvd. Please ring the intercom bell. The door lock will release, and you will be able to enter the main office.

Parking

There are designated parking times along Mahogany Way beside the school during morning entry and afternoon dismissal times. Feel free to park here and walk your child to their doors. Do NOT Park or drop off in front of the school as this is a bussing lane for our school and other schools.
