Hello Mahogany Families,
February is looking a little kinder today with the massive temperature swing in our favor this week and next. It is always a little easier to feel inspired and sprinkle kindness when we are not greeted with a negative 30-degree wind whipping us all day!
This week we recognize Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. This year’s theme is, “Let kindness grow”. It seems appropriate for us to be celebrating this, and this theme really connects with my messages this month and more importantly the work you are all doing in your classes each and every day. Pink Shirt Day is about cultivating a community of kindness and nurturing a sense of belonging. It can start with you, one word of kindness, acknowledgement, a smile...each action we take has the potential to ripple well beyond ourselves. This truly does seem timely. We often talk about ‘anti-bullying’ but I prefer to talk about the alternatives to bullying such as kindness, respect for all, inclusion and understanding and positivity to name a few. When someone acts as a ‘bully’ they are seeking to take someone else’s power as their own, the reason to do this is because they themselves feel powerless. When we take time to sprinkle the glitter of kindness everywhere like we have been talking about, we have the chance as adults and children to help someone feel their power, to open possibilities and wrap them in caring. This is true power, being able to help someone find their space, their way and their inner power.
On Wednesday, we will wear pink, not because someone told us to, but to show that we can all stand together with a common purpose to be kind, compassionate and show empathy to all those around us. We can help empower ourselves and others to make this amazing world even better, one gesture and one person at a time. Remember, ‘Awesome’ IS everywhere – you just need be open to seeing it and it will come to you.
Have an awesome weekend everyone and enjoy the warmup!
