Hello Mahogany Families,

I am pretty sure the consensus is that January was MUCH longer than 31 days! It is hard to believe that we are heading into February next week. I am looking forward to the annual groundhog predictions of weather and the conversations surrounding the outcome – I sure hope the prediction leans towards and early spring!

February is often referred to as the ‘love’ month. With Valentine’s Day in the middle of the month it is always a great time to center ourselves with kindness. I am often reminded that we never know what someone else is dealing with. In a world full of ‘Instagram’ life, we only see snapshots and it can be easy to make assumptions that someone else’s life is much better than our own. It can be easy to fall into the social media abyss and worry that we ourselves are not good enough, need to do more, or different to ‘be better’. The flip side to that is we do not actually know what the real story behind the snapshots are. It is the story of a person beyond ‘Insta’ that we often forget is there. You truly never know what someone may be dealing with or going through unless you take the time to hear their story – often, you may be surprised by the reality behind the pictures. This is why it is so important to check in on people. A simple smile, hello, how are you doing, can often go a long way. Acknowledging someone and checking in may be just the thing they needed to feel connected, and to know they are not alone. There is power in this connection, and in these kindness moments. We are grateful to have the opportunity to make these connections with you and your children every day.

Reminder that tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 31, 2025) is a Non-Instructional Day and there is no school for students.

Updates and Administrivia

Evergreen Theatre is coming to Mahogany on Monday with their performance “Alice’s Alberta Energy Adventure” February 3, 2025. Students will be entertained, engaged and learning through their dramatic performance. All students included.

Wonka Auditions

Main acting parts are being offered first to the grade 4 and 5 students.  In order to audition the students will have to sing O’Canada as well as recite a memorized poem.  They can sing a chorus from a second song if they choose.  We will be looking for in tune singing, expression, projection and confidence. We will also be taking students attendance into consideration as well.

Auditions will be taking place on  Monday, February 3 and Wednesday, February 5 at lunch time 11:50 in the music room.

Choir rehearsals are every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch

Thank you to those of you who have RSVP’d to the invitation for our From the Heart event on February 4 for newcomers. We look forward to connecting with you and bringing our community together 4:30-5:30pm on February 4, 2025. We also hope that many of the adults can stay for our school council meeting which follows at 6:00pm. If you missed the invitation, please check your email for a school messenger.
