Hello Mahogany Families

Over winter break I was reminded of glimmers...these tiny glimpses of joy, things that catch our attention and re-direct us are always there, it is how we notice them and what we do about them that can make them so meaningful. The first day back to school, Christine and I were outside on morning supervision and we group of crows flew overhead – this was a definite glimmer for me as my connection with crows is deeply rooted. I have been trying to pay attention to these little moments and take the joy from them. These can be an opportunity to celebrate and can sometimes be the thing that can turn your day around. There has been a re-surfacing of this idea of glimmers and that switch in mindset from triggers (things that can cause us to feel negative about something) to glimmers (opportunities to be open to something). Anytime we can have an opportunity to feel a spark of joy is amazing and can truly help us see the world around us differently.

It has been a busy week back in the swing of things and we know how much there is to do in January. With report cards on the horizon and kindergarten registration coming next week we know many of you are also feeling the fast pace of January. We hope that there are many ways that you all can find the little moments to celebrate with your families.

Take time to find some glimmers this weekend.

❤️

Inspiration | Glimmers

Glimmers...Glimmers are tiny micro moments of joy. These can be found in the tiniest of things – you can find them in those tiny everyday moments that you may not see if you are not looking for them. It could be a beautiful sunrise, the sparkle of a fresh snowfall, a child’s laugh, the sun streaming through a cloud on your way home from work. These small moments can make us smile, bring joy to our hearts, and create a feeling of sudden happiness that sticks. The new year is the perfect time to remember to look for the glimmers and let them lift you up.”

Lottery Information

  • The lottery process provides a consistent approach across our system. It was established to ensure fair and equitable access to schools, programs (regular, alternative) or grades with a student population at capacity or over capacity.
  • The 2025-26 lottery will take place on Feb. 12, 2025. The deadline to submit your registration or expressions of interest for schools with lotteries is Feb. 11, 2025, at 12 PM (noon).
  • Regular program registrations received after the lottery draw will be overflowed to their designated overflow school and be added to the call-back list (based on the appropriate priority level) in the order they are received. Students registering for an alternative program after the lottery draw must register for their designated regular program school, as no additional spaces will be available for the next school year.

How We Prioritize Students Lottery

Walk Zone

A walk zone is a CBE-set boundary around a school, generally between 1.6 km and 2.4 km. Walk zones play a role in determining lottery priority and the call-back list. Although changes to walk zones will be implemented for the 2025-26 school year, families registering now will not be affected. The current walk zones from the 2024-25 school year will still apply during the 2025-26 lottery and enrolment process. Further updates will be provided once the new walk zones are finalized.
