Hello Mahogany Families
This week when we walked out front for supervision, we noticed the sky getting lighter and lighter each morning. Yesterday, as the students arrived, we were greeted with the first glimmer of sunrise that we have seen for a long time. This beautiful deep pink began to highlight the silhouette of the clouds and spread across the sky like a warm hug embracing all the other dark clouds. It was a renewal and a sign of things to come as our days get longer and we can see the beginnings of spring and brighter days ahead. Several parents, Christine and I remarked at this beautiful morning glow up and it created a sense of excitement of things to come. Like the glimmers, these moments can help us define our day. The pink in the sky can be a memory to come back to, an interruption in the start of the day and an opportunity for a discussion to draw other’s attention to. I am always struck by the beautiful skies we have here, and I wonder who else noticed, did they see the same colours, were they able to appreciate it or take a moment to be inspired by it? We hope you too will have the opportunity to notice and to enjoy, maybe it can even set your day on a new course. Moving from the darkness of winter to the glimmers of spring definitely made a difference for us.
Wishing you a weekend filled with sunrise happiness,
❤️
Tracy and Christine

Updates and Administrivia
Report cards summarize and communicate student achievement at a point in time. In addition to the report card, schools communicate with parents/guardians about student progress on an ongoing basis in a variety of ways.
Learn more about assessment and reporting, including resources on How is My Child Doing in School?
As a school and broader system, we are constantly working towards calibrating our assessment and our reporting processes. You may notice that we have moved to a slightly different format this year with our report card comments. We have included specific information, as always, using our 1-4 indicator scale for all subject areas. We have also included comments including proficiency descriptors, level of understanding as demonstrated in each stem or outcome along with actions that can help to deepen understanding and success criteria to show where we will be supporting students ongoing growth and improvement. We continue to include ‘Areas of Strength’ as well as ‘Areas for Growth’. This year you will find comments aligning with the indicators directly after each subject that they are connected to in place of a block comment at the end of the report card. We hope that this will provide alignment with indicators and the connected comments.
Report Cards are available online beginning Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, through MyCBE.
Teachers in Kindergarten to Grade 3 have been working on the Alberta Education Provincial Assessments for literacy and numeracy. Teachers have been working individually with students to complete assessments. Teachers work with students on a variety of assessments throughout the year and use multiple ways of providing feedback and working with students using a wide body of evidence over the course of the year to assess where students are in their learning progressions.
