Hello Mahogany Families,
“To Each other, we are better together. When we think of childhood and early education, we tend to remember learning things like numbers, and letters, colors and shapes, timetables and table manners. What’s less often considered is that youth is also an opportunity for planting the seeds of social conscience. The impressions of the world that we gather as children become the foundations for how we understand our places in it as adults. What might the future look like if all children were taught about justice, equity and solidarity alongside the alphabet and arithmetic?” (Excerpt from the book Intersection Allies We Make Room for All)
This week we participated in Pink Shirt Day. This day was an incredible opportunity for our students to come together to spread kindness and stand up against bullying. We keep sharing the phrase, “Spread Kindness Like Confetti” with staff and students in hopes that the positivity that we see happening daily can become more frequent throughout every day and become the norm. As a school and system, we are working toward positivity, kind and caring schools and for tolerance and acceptance. The work we do through stories, class discussions, and whole school initiatives is helping us to find tolerance and build acceptance. Inclusion and diversity are what make our amazing school so special, and we hope this is a part of our school community and the whole community.
Take time this weekend to sprinkle some kindness around like confetti and see what amazing things come back to you as a result. #chosekindnessalways
Take care everyone,
❤️
Tracy and Christine

Parking Concerns
As part of our ongoing work with families regarding parking concerns both at the front of the school and at the Hug n' Go at the back of the school, I am writing to ask for your help. We have had several incidents where parents have engaged in some heated conversations with each other. I implore you to remember that each and every one of us has the right to feel safe at Mahogany. There is no place for anger, derogatory comments or racist comments.
You never know what someone else is going through. Our words and actions have an impact. Mahogany School is a safe and caring place to be. We work hard to teach the students the importance of our words and actions and their impact on one another. There is never an acceptable time to engage in conflict with each other. You are your child's first teacher, and your actions are the examples they follow. We are here for the children, there are so many teachable moments in all parts of the day, please help us in teaching the children lessons of tolerance and acceptance. Discrimination will not be tolerated.
I know that some of you may have been impacted either directly or indirectly by the actions of another adult during drop off and / or pick up. Please know that we continue to work with Everactive Schools and the Calgary Police Service in ensuring safety for our students. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out so that we can keep Mahogany School an amazing and safe place to be each day.
