Hello Mahogany Families!

Taking time to reflect...

This time of year, as the remaining leaves find their way to the ground and a blanket of grey covers our skies, it is a time for reflection. A change in season, Remembrance Day on the horizon and time with family over the Fall Break next week all provide a time for us to slow down and catch up. When I reflect on this time of year, I am reminded how precious each day is. Like you, I am often entrenched in the fast pace of the day, consumed by the ever-growing list of ‘to dos’ and making my way through each day of the week as a checklist of duties and events. This Fall break my plan is to connect and re-connect with myself and my family. The gift of time is something we are always seeking, and I know that this will be the opportunity to slow down and BE in the moment. Let the routine slide away a bit and enjoy. While I have many plans over these few days ahead, the most important one is to pull out the box of games, clear the kitchen table and set up some connection time with my family. These times always create a lot of conversation, loads of laughter and provide the time and space for connection that we may not consciously make otherwise. I look forward to the beautiful weather and taking my dog Penny to the river for a walk (I am not so much looking forward to the bath she will need after) I can already picture the joyful lagging tongue and her wagging tail. I plan to breathe deeply, walk slowly, take in the moments as they come. I wish for you all the time to do what makes you happy and hope that you too can slow down and BE in the moment.

Wishing you a rest filled Fall Break – look forward to hearing all your stories when you return on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

❤️

Safe Travels

This week at our monthly School Council Meeting we discussed travelling safely to and from school as well as ongoing parking concerns. We are working with AMA to do a patrol safety review as well as working with our partners at Calgary Parking Authority and CPS. This is continuing to be ongoing work. I have included the Mahogany School Park and Walk map that was created in conjunction with EverActive Schools last year to encourage families to walk in to the school, by parking a few blocks away and walking in we can reduce a great deal of traffic congestion immediately surrounding the school and help create a safer, and less challenging commute. When crossing Mahogany Blvd. Please consider waiting at the crosswalk until there are a few families to cross together, this may help the traffic flow. The hug n go area continues to be a challenge. We have several families who seem to be arriving an hour to an hour and a half early and are parking in the hug n go, there is no parking at any time in the hug n go area. The purpose of the hug n go area is to pull in up to the curb, allow your child (ren) to hop in from the sidewalk, then pull out and exit from the lane next to the parking lot. There is no stopping at any time in the flow-through lane next to the parking lot. Additionally, students should not be entering cars in the flow-through lane as this is extremely dangerous. When out in the community, please be mindful of houses and driveways. There is no parking in front of Driveways –especially on Mahogany Way. Please remember that the people in those houses may need leave and even partially blocking their driveways can be problematic. Thank you- your help with this really does make a huge difference in student safety!
