Mahogany Messenger – October 19th

Dear Mahogany Families,

Monday, October 19th is a non-instructional day for students. Teachers will be engaged in professional learning, and Mahogany School's gym will serve as an election site.

Once again, thank you to the volunteers who helped at the Casino fundraiser last week. We are grateful for your commitment to improving learning enhancements for our students. We'd love to see you at our next School Council or Mahogany School Fundraising Association Meeting in November. Feel free to join one meeting or both.

Wondering about the difference between the two meetings?

  • School Council – every parent & guardian of Mahogany School is automatically a member. The purpose of these meetings is to work alongside Administration to share input and advisement.
  • Mahogany School Fundraising Association (Parent Society) – the purpose of this group is primarily to raise funds for the school for learning enhancements & family events. This group also organizes our school's Fun Lunches.

The Importance of Daily Student Attendance

As we begin the 8th week of school, we wish to highlight the importance of daily attendance for student success. Being present at school provides valuable opportunities for learning, connection, and participation in the school community. Students are expected to attend regularly and punctually. When students miss 10% or more of instructional time, approximately two or more days a month, it can become challenging for students to fully participate in classroom learning and school activities. We recognize that various circumstances can affect a student’s attendance, and we are committed to approaching these situations with understanding and support. Our school is available to collaborate with families to identify concerns, explore possible strategies, and share information about supports and resources when needed. If your child won’t be attending school, we request that you call Mahogany school’s attendance line to report their absence . You can also email mahogany@cbe.ab.ca. If your child is having ongoing challenges coming to school, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Thank you for your continued partnership around your child's learning experience.

Halloween at Mahogany School

For many families, Halloween is an exciting event. At Mahogany School on Friday, October 30th, students are invited to wear elementary school-appropriate costumes (please leave all weapons & scary masks at home). Students will still participate in Phys Ed that day and all other learning activities, so parents, please ensure your child's costume permits this. Please also leave specials props at home that may be forgotten at school and are needed for trick-or-treating on Saturday! There will be no food sharing or parties of any kind that morning - please save all candy & special snacks for the weekend. We look forward to celebrating student creativity and excitement with those who choose to wear costumes. If you have any questions about that morning, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Sincerely,

Jill Scarrow, Christine Hewitt & Leah Clare
