Mahogany Messenger – October 26th
Dear Mahogany Families,
With the early morning snowstorm last Friday, we wanted to send out a few reminders to families.
Please note that parking and drop-off at the front of the school are prohibited. The area in front of the school is for:
- Calgary Transit buses
- School bus drop off
- Daycare bus drop off
- Accessible parking (please note marked areas with signage)
Thank you for choosing safety over convivence and helping our school community stay safe. Further – thank you for showing respect to our school staff who monitor student safety in this area.
Students will be outside for both learning and playing in all weather. It is only in frigid temperatures that students stay indoors (-20 degrees and below, with the wind chill). Thank you for ensuring your child has proper clothing and gear to enjoy his or her time outdoors. Having indoor shoes is a requirement for students. If your family requires financial assistance for winter clothing or other supplies such as footwear, please reach out to us so we can assist.
Provincial Screener Results for Students in Grades 1-5
Parents and guardians, please note that beginning this week, teachers will be sending home copies of your child's results from the mandated literacy & numeracy screeners completed by classroom teachers this fall. The Calgary Board of Education will be sharing information with parents through email on Monday, October 26th. Teachers will be sending home a brief letter, student results and an information sheet explaining the screeners in an envelope with students in their backpacks. Teachers look forward to discussing the results of the screeners and your child's learning of the curricular outcomes learned thus far, at Parent Teacher Conferences in November. Note - Kindergarten students will be assessed in January, 2027.
Halloween at Mahogany School
For many families, Halloween is an exciting event. At Mahogany School on Friday, October 30th, students are invited to wear elementary school-appropriate costumes (please leave all weapons & scary masks at home). Students will still participate in Phys Ed that day and all other learning activities, so parents, please ensure your child's costume permits this. Please also leave specials props at home that may be forgotten at school and are needed for trick-or-treating on Saturday! There will be no food sharing or parties of any kind that morning - please save all candy & special snacks for the weekend. We look forward to celebrating students' creativity and excitement with those who choose to wear costumes. If you have any questions about that morning, please reach out to your child's teacher.
School Council – November 4th
Please join us at 6:00 pm on November 3rd. We will be hearing from members of our Grade Two Team who will be sharing information about the Open Minds offsite learning experience. We have 12 classrooms in Grades Two and Four participating in Open Minds this year. The Mahogany School Fundraising Association meeting will occur directly after the School Council Meeting. All parents and guardians are welcome!
