Hello Mahogany Families!

As we wrap up our first full week of the school year, we want to take a moment to thank all of our families for an amazing start up! We have been able to jump into building relationships and developing learning routines so easily and your support has made such a smooth transition for us all. Your commitment to our ‘Mahogany Family’ and to creating a nurturing learning environment is truly inspiring.

Today is also Friday the 13th, a day often associated with superstitions. However, we’d like to embrace this day as an opportunity to reflect on our positive impact and the exciting journey ahead. Remember, it’s not the day but the attitude with which we approach it that defines our experience.

School Swag

Mahogany school apparel is ready to order! Please visit our online store to order your items. All items will be shipped to the school and distributed. If you are ordering a gift and want to keep your order ‘secret’ from your child, please email mahogany@cbe.ab.ca and we will keep it in the office for you to pick up. Orders are open starting today and the link will close on October 6. We encourage staff and students to wear swag on Fridays for school spirit and encourage students to wear their mahogany clothing for field trips too, and of course any day to show you school spirit is great!

Cavalry Football Club Student Game & School Fundraiser Day

Join us on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. for the Cavalry Football Club Student Game & School Fundraiser Day. Ten per cent from each ticket sold goes back to your school! CBE students, parents and staff are welcome to attend this event at the special rate of $30 plus GST.

Parent Led Conferences

Our Parent Led Conferences will be in-person at Mahogany School on September 26 and 27, 2024. All families will sign up through Conference Manager (Link to come in separate email with further details)

Our booking system opens on Thursday, September 19, 2022 at 6:00am. Students in Grades 1-5 who require additional time for Individual Program Plan (IPP) initial conversations will be contacted directly by their child's teacher to book in a session on Friday, September 27, 2024 between 8:00am and 12:00pm. Kindergarten Conferences will be held on both September 26 from 3:30-8:00pm and on Friday, September 27 from 8:00am-12:00pm.

The conferences will be 10 minutes long and will be Parent-Led. This is an opportunity for you to connect with your child’s teacher and share about what makes your child unique.  Please only book one 10-minute conference for each of your children unless otherwise directed by your child's teacher.

Kindergarten Conferences will be held:

• Thursday, September 26 3:30-8:00pm
• Friday, September 27 from 8:00am-12:00pm
• Grade 1-4 Conferences will be held:
• Thursday, September 26 from 3:30-8:00pm
• Friday, September 27 from 8:00am-12:00pm for IPP students and will be booked by the Classroom Teacher

Book Fair

The Scholastic book fair is coming to our school, and we are looking forward to seeing you there!  This is a huge fundraiser for our new school to help build our library collection. Did you know that for every $10 you spend at the fair, up to $6 comes directly back to our school helping us obtain new books and resources for our library and classrooms? The students are excited to check out the latest and greatest in children’s books from September 26 -27, 2024.  We invite your entire family to participate open Thursday evening during parent teacher interviews as well as Friday morning until 11:00 AM. Remember to mark the Book Fair dates on your calendar and thank you in advance for supporting our Mahogany School Book Fair.

Hand Chime Club - From the Music Room

“Hand chime Ensemble rehearsals will begin the week of September 23 and will continue to take place every Monday after school until the Winter Concert in December.  All the students who are chosen for the Hand chime Ensemble will come directly to the music room at the dismissal bell at 2:30. There will be NO afterschool transportation so you will have to arrange transportation/pick up for your child with prompt pick up being at 3:30.

For a Hand chime group to function well, it needs to be a smaller group, therefore there will only be a limited number of spaces available for students (max of 12).  That is why this experience is limited to just grade 5’s. Applications accepted until Wednesday, September 18.  From these applications I will do a random draw to choose students for the group." Sign up!

Choir - From the Music Room

Choir rehearsals will begin Thursday, September 26, 2024 and will continue to take place every Thursday until the winter break in December.  Choir rehearsals will take place from 11:50 – 12:15 every Thursday at lunch.  Students will come to the music room right when the lunch bell rings at 11:50 and we will rehearse for 25 minutes and then the students will head back to their classrooms to eat with their classmates and lunch supervisor. If your child is interested in singing in the choir, the choir form will need to be filled out and returned to Mrs. Bourgeois by Friday, September 20, 2024. 

Fun Lunch - Healthy Hunger

Thank you to our Mahogany Fundraising Association for organizing our Fun Lunch / Snacks! This is a parent purchase option through Healthy Hunger. Everything is now ready to go for families to order from the Healthy Hunger website. You will need to create an account if you are new to the program.(Cut off day is always 5 days prior to the event)

Please check the Healthy Hunger website for details and dates.  Please create an account. Once you are set up add “Mahogany School” and select your child's Teacher name from the list.  

We alternate between healthy lunch options for Grades 1-5 and snacks for Grades K-5.

Our first School Council Meeting will be on September 24, 2024, at 6:00pm at Mahogany School followed by our first Fundraising Association Meeting will be held in person at Mahogany School All parents/guardians are welcome to join! Doors will be open at 5:45pm please join us in the Gathering Space.
