Dear Mahogany Families,
We hope you had a chance to enjoy some of the beautiful weather with your families this weekend. Last week, many of our classes had an opportunity to explore Mahogany Wetlands and the community. Please see a few samples of this learning here, here and here. At Mahogany School, for our work around Truth and Reconciliation, we have made commitments for the 2026-27 school year. These commitments reflect the learning that students engage in, on and with the land. Please see our commitments here.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you at our Meet the Teacher this Thursday. HUGE THANK YOU to the Mahogany School Fundraising Association for hosting the Welcome Back Family BBQ/Picnic that evening.
Sincerely,
Jill Scarrow, Christine Hewitt & Leah Clare
September 24th 3:30 – 5:30 pm Meet the Teacher & MSFA Hosted BBQ
From 3:30 until 5:30, Mahogany School will host a "Meet the Teacher" evening. Parents, this is an opportunity to drop into your child's classroom, see their learning space, and say hello to his or her classroom teacher. Students must be accompanied by a parent to be inside the school. Mahogany School Fundraising Association will be hosting a BBQ/Family Picnic outside the school from 3:00 – 6:00 pm that evening. Bring your picnic blankets and baskets to spend some time welcoming back our school community! Beef hot dogs, chips, and juice will be served. For people with any food preferences, allergies or intolerance, please bring your own food. There is no cost for the hotdogs, chips, or juice; however, donations for MSFA will be accepted. Students must be accompanied by a parent to join. There will be no adult or staff supervision provided and food will not be served to unsupervised children in the food line. Please have an adult accompany your child.
Please note – due to this event, for the afternoon of the 24th the 'Hug & Go' will be closed. Please plan accordingly.
Scholastic Book Fair – Thursday Evening
For one night only...the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school!! It will be set up in the gathering space by the gym. Please come and browse the latest and greatest books and support our library. 50% of proceeds go to buying new books for our school library. We look forward to seeing you there!

September 25th - IPP Conferences
Parents – there is no school for students on September 25th due to a non-instructional day. Teachers will be reaching out to families to book conferences that day, if you have a student supported by an Individual Program Plan (IPP). This day is an opportunity to meet your child's teacher one-on-one and share parent perspective for the 2026-27 school year based on his or her individualized program planning. Thank you for being a partner in your child's learning.
Orange Shirt Day at Mahogany School – We will be observing Orange Shirt Day and celebrating the message that Every Child Matters on Monday, September 28th. All staff and students are invited to wear an orange shirt as we honor the message: Every Child Matters. To learn more about Orange Shirt Day, see this short video.

Casino Fundraising – Please Volunteer!
On October 14 & 15, we’ll be at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino raising money for our school, and this could be HUGE. Every shift we fill brings in about $2,000 for our school. Which means…40 shifts × ~$2,000 = potentially $80,000 for our kids. This isn't just fundraising for the sake of fundraising. This is money going directly back into our school and creating experiences, resources, and opportunities for our kids. No experience is needed. You’ll get training; it’s casual and fun, and food is provided! Volunteers can be grandparents, neighbors, aunts, uncles, or the person behind you in the grocery line. They do not need a school volunteer form or have a police record check. CLICK HERE to volunteer. Please email: mahoganyschoolfa@gmail.com with any inquiries.
