Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year! 

The first day of classes for students is Tuesday, September 2, 2025. This will be a full day of classes for Grades 1-5 and staggered entry for all Kindergarten students (See below). 

Please send an email to mahogany@cbe.ab.ca if your plans have changed and you will be starting later than August 29, or you have moved over the summer.   

We hope that you have had an amazing summer filled with many adventures and stories to share with us next week! 

The start of a new school year is always an exciting and sometimes challenging time. Routine and regular schedules are great to have in place, getting back into them can sometimes be a challenge after the lovely summer break. We understand that there are many feelings for both students and parents alike when it comes to the start of a new school year. Whether it is your first time with a child in school or you are well versed in the September start up, it can bring a lot of emotions. Our staff is ready and so excited to meet you all and we are here to help!  

Can’t wait to see you all on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, as we enter our 4th year and a great new chapter in our Mahogany story.

Back to School 

• Check out our Back-to-School page on the Mahogany School Website for all the information to get you set up for the first day of school.

School Fees, Communication, Lunchroom, Transportation 

• Please Check / Create your MyCBE account. All parents must have a MyCBE account to access and pay fees, book school conferences, see report cards, etc.. Please go to the CBE website using the link below and click on "My CBE" in the bottom left corner to register. When signing up for emails, note that we send weekly updates from classrooms and the school. If you are not registered for commercial email, you will not receive any information that involves financial transactions (fun lunch, fundraising, school events).

Mahogany 2025-2026 Calendar  

• The 2025-2026 Mahogany School Calendar has now been published on our school website. It contains an overview of all the key dates for the upcoming school year. It also has our school bell times (no changes), lunch times and a breakdown of when alternating Friday Kindergarten groups will be attending school. Information on specific events such as Healthy Hunger, assemblies and field trips will be communicated to families as they are scheduled throughout the year.  

School Hours 

Grade 1-5 School Hours will be:  

• Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–2:30 PM  
• Friday 8:00 AM–12:00 PM.   
• Flexible entry begins at 7:45am 
• Grade 1-5 Lunch: 11:50-12:28  
  We will alternate with half of the school eating first then outside for lunch recess with the other half of the school beginning outside for lunch recess then coming in to eat.  

Kindergarten hours:  

• Mon-Thursday: 
• AM Classes = 8:00am-10:50am  
• Flexible entry begins at 7:45am for AM classes  
• PM Classes= 11:40am-2:30pm  
• Fridays (Alternating) = 8:00am-12:00pm

School Supplies 

Basic school supplies for all Mahogany students will be supplied (pencils, notebooks, scissors, glue, etc.). Student supplies are purchased by the school and provided as part of your school fees. All students will have access to shared supplies in each classroom which are grade appropriate. Classroom teachers may send home lists of optional additional items once school begins in September.  

Items you will need to send with your child:  

• A backpack large enough to hold a large library book  
• Indoor shoes (these will stay at school)   
• Before and After School Students will require an additional indoor pair 
• Water bottle  
• Lunch bag/snack bag  

Please label everything you send to school - First and Last name are important so we can ensure clothing is returned to your child. 

Homeroom Teachers and Class Assignments|  

Families will receive notification from their child’s homeroom teacher by the end of day on August 28th via school messenger email. This information will be accompanied by the first day of school plans as well as which doors your child will be using to enter and exit the building. All staff will be outside on the first days for supervision and will be there to help direct you and your child.  Please plan to say goodbye to your child outside the school as parents will not be permitted to accompany children into the school.  

Families with a pre-arranged school visit will be contacted directly by their homeroom teacher on August 27, 2025. 

Entry and Exit 

Grade 1-5 Students enter through any door. Flexible entry begins when the bell rings at 7:45am. All students to be seated for learning to begin at 8:00am. All students Grades 1-5 can enter through the parking lot doors until 8:00am. Anyone arriving after 8:00am will need to come to the main office and sign in. Doors close sharply at 8:00am. 

With so many new families joining us we are hopeful that this will keep the 'flow' moving smoothly in our Hug n' Go area which is for drop off and pick up only. If you are walking your child to an outside entrance, a reminder that there is parking available along Mahogany Way for drop off and pick up before and after school, parking is not permitted in the Hug n’ Go area or in the Staff Parking Lot. Additionally, there is no drop-off or parking permitted in front of the school on Mahogany Blvd. At any time of day, this includes Kindergarten drop-off and pick-up for both morning and afternoon. 

Please note that if you are parking on Mahogany Blvd. across the street from the school, you must walk to a crosswalk (traffic circle) to cross safely with your child(ren). Do not send your child(ren) across the street on their own or run across with them - as you know this road can be very tricky and fast, we want to be careful of everyone's safety and ensure all our students and families begin the day positively. Thank you all for your help keeping our transportation complexities in mind. We appreciate you! 

Kindergarten students will enter and exit the building through the front doors of the school on Mahogany Blvd. At the end of the day, a teacher will ensure direct dismissal of each student to an approved adult. Students are to be picked up outside the front doors on Mahogany Blvd. There is no parking or stopping permitted in front of the school. 

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students will begin their school year using a staggered entry for one day on both September 2, 2025, allowing students to be grouped in smaller numbers and to become comfortable and familiar with their new school, the kindergarten teachers, and their daily routines. Students are to enter and exit through their regular Kindergarten doors (the main entrance on Mahogany Blvd.). Regular AM/PM classes and times begin on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. 

Staggered Entry Times 

AM student last name beginning with A – L attend 8:15am – 9:30am   

AM student last name beginning with M– Z attend 9:45am – 11:00am 

PM student last name beginning with A – L attend 11:30am–12:45pm   

PM student last name beginning with M– Z attend 1:00pm – 2:15pm 

Volunteering 

All volunteers must have a current CBE Police Clearance. Clearances are valid for 5 years and can be transferred from other CBE schools. If you require a new CBE clearance, please use this link and follow the instructions.  Get Involved 

Attendance 

Regular attendance is key to student success. Please note that you must notify the office if your child will be absent or late. You can call the attendance line at 403-817-3448 and press 1 for the attendance line to leave a message with your child’s name, grade, and teacher, please spell your child’s last name slowly.

Please ensure that you have updated your contact information through your MyCBE account if there has been any change in phone number, address or pick up contacts. 

Classroom Placements 

We understand how important your child’s classroom experience is, and we truly value your trust in our school. Our placement process is thoughtful and thorough, considering each child’s academic needs, social-emotional growth, and the overall balance of the classroom community. 

While we know it can be disappointing when a preferred teacher or friend isn’t part of your child’s placement, please know that every decision is made with their success and well-being in mind. Because the process is so interconnected, we will not be taking further requests or making placement changes. 

Thank you for supporting your child as they build new relationships and grow in this year’s class. We are confident they will have a positive and rewarding experience this school year.

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch 

A friendly reminder to place your order for the upcoming week's snacks/lunches. Please go to www.healthyhunger.ca to place your order. Once you know your Child’s teacher name, you can use this link to sign up for one or all the snacks and lunches for the entire year! 

Just a reminder that Kindergarten families can sign up for the Fun Snack days only as they do not stay for lunch. Students in Grades 1-5 can sign up for snacks and lunch. 

School Council / Parent Society| 

Please Join us! School Council and Parent Society is a great chance to find out what is happening in Mahogany and be involved in your child’s school. The school council meets on the first Tuesday of each month. Our next School Council Meeting will be on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 6:00pm at Mahogany School followed by our next Fundraising Association Meeting will follow, all parents/guardians are welcome to join! Doors will be open at 5:45pm. Please join us in the Gathering Space at the front of the school. We look forward to seeing you all there!
